In Motion 2, a primary role is one of the two role types in a workflow. An individual user who is assigned to a primary role is the main person progressing through the workflow, alongside any additional supporting people who are typically not a part of your organization (spouse, references, etc.). The main person completing a workflow typically fills a special type of primary role called the main role.

When multiple users are needed to fill a primary role, a multi-role configuration can be used. Users may need to belong to a particular group before being available to take on a primary role. Also see: secondary role.
